Commentary
For the meaning of ἐκ προσώπου = acting strategos, see DO Seals 1, no. 71.6. We know of two ek prosopou of Thessalonica who served in 974 and 975 and had the title of protospatharios: Symeon and Theodore (Lavra I, no. 6; Iviron I, no. 2).
