Commentary

Philip Grierson classifies this follis as having an anomalous style to that of other folles minted in Constantinople. Compare to DOC 1:270, no. 11a, which is normal. Grierson was proven right, since this follis belongs to the “military mint” series later identified by Hahn (MIBEC 128, no. 69).
