Logos, may you protect your servant, the son of Doukas, through the intercessions of the holy martyr Theodore.
Commentary
The inscription consists of two twelve-syllable verses. In his unpublished catalogue of the Shaw collection, Laurent allowed for the possibility that the owner's Christian name was Theodore, in keeping with the saint shown on the obverse; but he cautioned against this reading since he transcribed the fourth line as τὸν Δούκα, i.e. "son of Doukas." We have followed this reading but await confirmation or correction from a better preserved parallel.
