Sergios komes (sixth/seventh century)
Obverse
Two standing figures, St John the Baptist at left, holding a staff cross over his left shoulder and offering a blessing with his right hand. Inscription at left: S,|IO̅|H|S : S(anctus) Ioh(anne)s. The figure at right cannot be precisely identified since the inscription to the right is only partially preserved. In his unpublished catalogue of the Shaw collection, Laurent suggested that the first and last letters could be I and , in which case the entire inscription could form an invocation: Sancte Iohannes aiuta. Border of thick dots.
