Theotokos, help your servant Meligalas imperial spatharios and chartoularios of the genikon logothesion.
Commentary
On Meligalas’s career, see the commentary at BZS.1955.1.1042.
The type of invocative monogram on the obverse is not certain, but Meligalas uses type V on his other seals, so that is probably what appears here.
Although Meligalas’s full office is not legible on this specimen, his other seals record offices in service of the genikon logothesion; see, e.g., imperial spatharokandidatos and chartoularios of the genikon logothesion (BZS.1955.1.1065, and possibly BZS.1955.1.1066); imperial spatharokandidatos, chartoularios of the genikon logothesion, and kommerkiarios of Thessalonike (BZS.1955.1.1028); and imperial spatharokandidatos, chartoularios of the genikon logothesion, and paraphylax of Abydos (e.g., BZS.1955.1.1067).
