Commentary
The Armenian warlord Philaretos Brachamios was entrusted with high military command by Romanos IV Diogenes; his title of magistros puts this seal in the years between Romanos' accession in 1068 and the first year of the reign of Nikephoros III Botaneiates (1078-1081) when he is attested in the higher rank of kouropalates. See Cheynet, "Les Brachamioi."
