Commentary

The identification of the saint is uncertain; it would be a very rare instance of an image of the ninth-century St Kassiane the Hymnographer. The reading of the family name on the reverse is also uncertain. Although there appears to be a vertical element at the right side of where the first letter would be (yielding a mu, nu, or phi), this may just be damage. The fourth letter could be a kappa or chi.
