Translation

σφραγίζι... Ἰωάννου

Commentary

The reading of the inscription on the reverse is uncertain. The on the second line likely begins the family name; this could be a nu or a sideways zeta. This family name may continue to the middle of the third line, before the chi, or into the final line, before the iota. If the former, then the seal owner’s first name could be Kaloioannes; if the latter, John, the name we accept here.
