Commentary
The dating of this seal is uncertain. A date of the sixth or seventh century is suggested based on the design of the eagle with outspread wings and the thickness of the fabric, which is more characteristic of earlier seals than of those from the tenth and early eleventh centuries, when animals again appear on seals with some frequency.
