Obverse

The emperor Alexios I Komnenos at left, the empress Irene at right, holding a staff cross between them. Traces of epigraphy at left: αλ. : Ἀλ[έ]ξ[ιος]. Traces of epigraphy at right: ηρι : Ἠρι[νη]. Border of dots.

Reverse

Two figures, half-length, holding a long cross between them. The figure at left cannot be identified but appears to be a saint; the figure at right is John Komnenos, holding an akakia in his left hand. No epigraphy visible. Border of dot.

Commentary

It is not clear whether this specimen is a coin or token. It shows the emperor Alexios I Komnenos and the empress Irene on the obverse, and their heir John (born 1087) on the reverse.
