My dear Robert,

To my intense disgust, I’ve just received instructions from the Internat. BankThe International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), established in 1944, became operational in 1946 as the original institution of the World Bank Group. It was a cooperative organization of 188 member nations that originally promoted sustainable development and reconstruction to nations devastated by the Second World War. See letter of June 28, 1947. to cancel my sailing on the “de Grasse”SS De Grasse, a passenger ocean liner built in 1920–1924 for the Compagnie Générale Trasatlantique, and launched in February 1924. 7 April, and to attend the Economic Commission for EuropeThe United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE or ECE), a commission established in 1947 to encourage economic cooperation among its member states. at Geneva, beginning April 26 and lasting 2–3 weeks.

This throws out all my plans. Would you be very kind and let me know what yours are? Are you coming over this summer? When do you leave Washn for California? When do you plan to return?

Much love to Mildred and yourself.
