Syria is home to some of the world’s most impressive castle architecture.
Castles are some of Syria’s most recognizable archaeological sites. From the imposing citadel of the Krak des Chevaliers in the west to the walls of Dura Europos along the Euphrates in the east, these places represent the military and political centers of Syria’s historic ruling regimes. Along with the aforementioned fortifications, Syria is also home to Qalaat Saladin, Qalaat Marqab, and the citadels at Aleppo and Bosra.
