A Harleian binding: “Harleian” refers to a style of book decoration which became stylish in 1720s England. The style was developed by binders working for the collector Robert Harley (1661–1724), but it gained popularity with other collectors as well.
The style is distinguished by a diamond-shaped centerpiece composed of many small tools.
