Hans Vredeman de Vries’s imaginary architectural views display many elements typical of Netherlandish cities: canals, bridges, and multilevel gabled houses with large windows. In this work, as in the rest of his oeuvre, the artist blends local building traditions with the classical architectural language imported from Italy.
